Wife: Winndye Jenkins

Larry Hoover has been romantically involved with Winndye Jenkins since 1968. Their son Larry Hoover Jr. was born in 1973 when Larry Hoover was under trial for the murder of William Young. After years of refusal by the prison authorities they finally got married on January 9, 2020.

Earlier in the 1990s Winndye Jenkins also ran a local community outreach group called Save the Children Promotions. The organization organized rap concerts with some proceeds going to children’s causes. She owned and operated in the early 1995 a designer gang-clothing line named Ghetto Prisoner Clothing Inc. It sold shirts bearing the image and prisoner number of Larry Hoover.

The feds, with the help of the IRS criminal division, raided the office of Ghetto Prisoner Inc. and the home of Winndye Jenkins in April 1995 and seized company records and $67,000 in cash. The feds alleged that her two businesses were the fronts through which much of the Gangster Disciple gang’s estimated annual drug profits of $10 million were laundered.

She also owned and ran a construction company named Busy Hands and Feet Co., Inc. from 1999 to 2005. After the closure of this business, she worked for several years as Trucking Manager at Riteway-Huggins Construction Services, Inc.

In 2014, Winndye Jenkins created the Larry Hoover Project with the purpose to have Hoover’s criminal history reviewed and get clemency for him.

She is allowed to visit Larry Hoover with her son and grandchildren three to four times a year in ADX Prison in Florence, Colorado. During the visits Hoover is separated by a glass sheet and they communicate using microphones. She knows that her husband perhaps will never escape the prison but her love and devotion for him keeps her going.

Girlfriends

Bertha Mosby

Larry Hoover had also been romantically involved for a long time with Bertha Mosby. She was once a beauty shop operator and later also sold cocaine on the streets of Chicago.

In 1996, she faced charges that could have led to a sentence up to life imprisonment for selling cocaine. She chose to assist the feds in the prosecution of the case against Hoover and only received a sentence of 5 years in prison. She testified before the court that she had been in a relationship with Hoover for 25 years before she broke up with him in 1992. She claimed that between 1986 and 1992 she sold 330 pounds of cocaine on behalf of Hoover.

Bernice “Chocolate” Albert

Larry Hoover also had relations with a woman named Bernice “Chocolate” Albert. She paid conjugal visits to Larry Hoover in the prison and Tyree Hoover was born to them in 1995.

Children

Larry Hoover has three sons and no daughters. Some people say that Larry Hoover has a daughter named Samaya Hoover but this is not true.

Larry “Lil Larry” Bernard

Larry “Lil Larry” Bernard is the eldest of the three children of Larry Hoover. He was born on June 5, 1970 in Chicago and was given the nickname Lil Larry. He was raised by his paternal grandmother Obell Cooper.

In 2010, Larry Bernard moved from Chicago to Jackson, Mississippi, the city where his father was born, with just $275 in his pocket. For four and half years he worked in a steel mill there. During his job at the steel mills, he started selling sandwiches and later left his job to establish a successful restaurant business.

Larry Bernard’s son Rico Clark is serving a 55 year sentence for a murder he allegedly committed in 2006. Rico Clark was only 19 at that time. Serious questions have been raised over the way the trial was conducted and there are strong voices that claim him to be innocent.

Larry Bernard does not like to be in the spotlight and quite a lot of information about him is hidden from the public eye.

Tyree Hoover

Tyree Hoover is the youngest of Larry Hoover’s three children. He was born in 1995 to Bernice “Chocolate” Albert. Tyree Hoover is called the miracle child of Larry Hoover amongst the GDs because his birth came as a huge surprise to them.

Tyree Hoover has been in the past close to his elder half-brother Larry “Lil Larry” Bernard who taught him life skills and played an important role in his life.

According to Tyree Hoover, when he was a little boy, some guys would come to his home and would give him money to be handed to his mother or grandmother. They lived a privileged life at that time. When Tyree Hoover was in sixth or seventh grade, the money that was coming in reduced markedly as a result of crackdown on GDs. At that time his mother had to work in a post office to make both ends meet.

Tyree Hoover studied Public Relations at Harold Washington College, Chicago. He co-founded an event management and production company named Internz Management and Production.

Siblings

Larry Hoover was the eldest of the four siblings. He has a younger sister Diane Cooper and had two younger brothers Ronnie Hoover and Charles Hoover. Both of his brothers are now deceased.

In May 1996, Diane Cooper was caught by the officers of Stateville Correctional Center with a loaded handgun and a small bag of marijuana in her car when she was visiting the prison. She was accompanied by her boyfriend Presley “Lucky” Patterson who was a high ranking member of Gangster Disciples. Diane Cooper was allegedly carrying the handgun and marijuana for some inmates there upon the instructions of her brother Larry Hoover who himself was incarcerated at USP Marion, Illinois at that time.

Diane Cooper pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months of prison. Her boyfriend Patterson also pleaded guilty but to less severe charges. He agreed to cooperate with the authorities and provided information about the working of the gang after the 1995 raid.

Diane Cooper is not allowed by the officials to visit her brother Larry Hoover in the prison.
